Coated yarns for carpets
Description
Coatyarn is a leading producer of high technology coated yarns, suitable to a big range of applications, from reinforcement and stabilization of fabrics to the automotive, from furniture to cables, from ropes to defence, …
We offer a variety of combinations between cores and coats: among the core fibers we use there are e-glass, high tenacity polyester, stainless steel, basalt, aramid fiber, cordura and polyester; coated by extrusion with high performing thermoplastic polymers such as TPU, low melt bio based co-polyamide, low melt co-polyester, EVA, polyamide 12, polypropylene, PEEK, and special polymers such as PPS or PVDF.
We have recently developed a new coated yarn which could offer a solution upstream, in creating the backing fabric on the loom.
Our coated yarn can be inserted in the weft direction and, after the tufting is done, an infrared light can easily melt the Copolyamide coating, bonding the fibers together. An eventual further calendering process could help getting a more flat and rigid backing.
There are multiple advantages offered by our technology:
- Alternative to latex backing, which is difficult to recycle and tends to leak chemicals in the environment over time
- Shorter curing times, with cost and energy saving
- Antifraying effect when cutting the carpet.
- Longer carpet life, as the calendaring process would make it more rigid increasing the tuft pulling resistance
- Our coating is largely made from renewable sources
Our coated yarns can also be a successful solution for woven carpets: the coated yarn we developed could help getting great edge-cutting and anti-fraying. Considering the low melting point, it would imply also saving of time and cost for energy and heating.
