About us
Filzfabrik Wurzen is a medium-size company in the textile industry and today the oldest felt manufacturing plant in the world specialising in wet processed felts.
Established in 1783, the original J.D. Weickert felt company boomed in the middle of the 19th century, especially after introducing piano hammer felts. The product range expanded continuously over the years.
After reprivatisation in 1991, the company grew successfully, at the same time following old traditions.
Wurzen felts are appreciated in many industries and on all continents of the world.
Hammers made with Wurzen felt are key für excellent sound in instruments of famous piano brands all over the world.
Filzfabrik Wurzen has a variety of machines for manufacturing felt in the traditional way. With this machinery we are in a position to manufacture a wide range of felts.
Besides the felt making we have many opportunities to offer customised felt products. With our know-how and with special equipment and technical facilities we are able to manufacture felt parts according to customers´ requirement.
We costumise pressed felts, needled felts and other materials - those also in combination with felt.
With our experience in many industries and the know-how of our staff, we are able to find individual solutions for our customers.

Abrasive and polishing felts
We supply felts in various quality categories and densities to meet a wide range of customer requirements and wishes.
Our polishing felts can be supplied as pads, disks, shaped parts or polishing points in various designs. You can find a list of our standard dimensions here.
We can provide a range of material densities, from ‘soft as cotton wool’ to ‘unyielding hardness’, to meet your specific abrasion and polishing tasks.
We can offer a broad spectrum of special product solutions and would be delighted to try to find a solution for your application.

Felt for musical instruments
Piano felts are an integral part of our product range. Thereby we follow the centuries-long tradition of J. D. Weickert Pianofortefilzfabrik.
Our piano felt products include:
- top hammer felt by Wurzen Felt in 4 different qualities (B, A, AA, Weickert special)
- treble damper felt and bass damper felt in sheets or cut in strips
- piano mechanism felt on roll or as strips
- front rail punchings and back rail strips from white climate-stable piano felt or from woven felt
- bushing cloth and balance rail punchings
- moderator felt and many other felt parts that are used in piano construction
We also offer felts for other musical instruments:
- felt balls and beater heads for mallets

Endless felts
Alongside our regular technical wool felts, we also produce specialty felts for our customers’ specific applications. These include seamless felt tubes, felt sleeves, roller covers and felt belts.
In addition to our standard dimensions, we also supply a range of customer-specific solutions.
Fitting felt tubes to your rollers is one of the services we offer.
Felt tubes and belts are used in lubrication in metalworking, the food industry, textile machinery, paper production (felt manchon) and also as ironing felts in the leather industry.
Our standard dimensions for felt tubes are:
Dia 32 x 22 mm, up to 1000 mm length
Dia 60 x 40 mm, up to 1600 mm length
Dia 110 x 80 mm, up to 1600 mm length

If you wish, we can also include special features, such as adhesives, velour fabrics or impregnations.

Technical felts
Conventional wool felts are produced on modern, high-performance machinery based on a process that has been used for millennia. These felts are available in various white and grey felt qualities.
With its versatile properties, felt is ideal for a diverse range of applications in many different industry sectors!
Our product range also includes needle felts made from synthetic fibres such as:
- Polyester
- Polypropylene
- Meta-aramid and para-aramid fibres or PAN fibres in various thicknesses and densities
- Simple fleeces from mixed and/or recycled fibres
- Specially defined filter fleeces
