Cordenka GmbH & Co. KG is the leading producer of technical rayon.
Our headquarters and yarn-production facilities are located in Obernburg, Germany. Converting operations are located in Obernburg, Mühlhausen/Thüringen and Gorzów, Poland. Cordenka employs more than 600 people in total.

Cordenka® Rayon is a high-tenacity, cellulose-based manmade fiber and is mainly used as reinforcing material in high-performance tires, mechanical rubber goods and composites. As a biobased and biodegradable fiber rayon is a well established material and holds key features for a sustainable future.
At Cordenka we stand for sustainability on three different levels. Our biobased material rayon is an ecofriendly alternative to oil based fibers – keeping the environment free of plastic and fossil carbon in the ground. In the production, we minimize the necessary resources and make sure they come from responsible sources. Fabric for Composites
Reinforcements for thermoset and thermoplastic composites
Cordenka® Rayon woven fabrics are optimized for the reinforcement of lightweight composites. The fabrics are available with different weaving patterns and areal weights (200–600 g/m²).
Cordenka fabrics provide stiffness and strength on the one hand and impact resistance on the other. By that, Cordenka fabrics can be used for the construction of lightweight composite parts with excellent energy absorption behavior.
The combined use of Cordenka fabrics with other reinforcements, e.g. carbon fabrics, provides intelligent cost-saving composite design opportunities.

Technical multifilament yarn – based on a natural feedstock
Rayon as manufactured by Cordenka is a special technical viscose yarn with unique properties fit for high performance applications. As other viscose fibers, rayon is made of the renewable resource cellulose – making use of natural carbon removal.

Cellulose-based carcass construction – built for lasting performance
CORDENKA® Rayon tire cord and fabric is a Rayon product scientifically optimized for the reinforcement of passenger car tires. It is standardly impregnated with a Resorcin-Formaldehyde-Latex-Dip for ideal rubber adhesion.
High thermal stability and exceptional mechanical properties guarantee highest safety and endurance. In order to ensure the perfect fit for a wide range of applications, Cordenka offers cord and fabric with various different specifications.

Sustainable light-weight composites
Rayon reinforcement for impact resistant compound materials
Rayon fibers can be used for the reinforcement of conventional or bio-based thermoplastics, thermosets and elastomers. Bio-Composite materials, such as the Cordenka development product PLA-Cordenka® 20, combine performance and sustainability and constitute interesting up-to-date alternatives to conventional composite materials.

Chopped Rayon Fiber
Viscose shortcut fiber and cord – a rayon product for special applications
Chopped rayon fibers are made in a subsequent process, where Cordenka® Rayon multifilament yarn is cut into fibers with various lengths from 2 to 125 mm. The shortcut fibers are mainly used as input in the production chain of rayon reinforced pellets. In a similar way, chopped rayon cord is made of twisted rayon cord that is cut into short pieces. Among other applications, chopped cord can be further processed to rayon fiber wadding.
