Steiger Participations SA was founded in 1949. It develops, manufactures and sells industrial flat knitting machines. Based in Vionnaz, where machines are manufactured for Europe, Steiger set up a production factory in China in 2007 to serve the Asian and American markets.

Originally active only in the fashion garment sector, Steiger has developed two new high added value segments. In the medical segment, machines are used to knit customized compression garments for burn victims or orthopedic applications. In the technical textiles segment, they knit 3-dimensional composite fibers such as carbon fiber, which are solidified and used in aerospace and sports, among other applications.
