Education at TEXOVERSUM School of Textiles covers a wide spectrum of topics ranging between technology and emotionality. Parallel to the profound education of our students research and development for and together with the industry play an important role at Reutlingen University.

The education and research center for interactive materials (IMAT) pools the know-how of Reutlingen University covering topics as fiber, textile and fleece technology, textile finishing and chemistry, sustainability, recycling strategies or renewable resources and Industrial Design. The IMAT cooperates closely with the highly regarded DITF Denkendorf (German Institutes of Textile and Fiber Research Denkendorf).

The IMAT as cooperative research and education group is an innovation driver for research and development especially aiming on interactive material. The IMAT is equipped with high-graded research facilities from lab-scale to industrial scale and is in close contact to local, national as well as international partners. The master program interdisciplinary material science is connected to the IMAT. The degree addresses graduates from the fields of textile and clothing technology, design, computer science, chemistry, engineering and process engineering. The master program is focused on a project and research oriented education. The program targets interdisciplinary thinking and working, exploiting synergies combined with a deep technical knowledge for the specific field of study each candidate brings along.

The technical equipment of the education and research center for interactive materials (IMAT) and the faculty of Textile and Design allows carrying out reseach and development project along the complete textile chain. Depending on the specific topics the manufacturing halls are equipped with excellent testing facilities in some areas up to an industrial production scale. To guarantee the textile testing Reutlingen University provides relevant test equipment in its laboratories. Additionally the faculty is closely linked with the fields of chemistry, computer science, engineering and design available at the campus. 

We are well-prepared to discuss with you about new ideas, to do research and to develop. A cooperation can be on different levels. We do research and development together with you or for you – either only with our expert team within the framework of governmentally funded projects or bilateral projects. Industry can also work with our students preparing their thesis or we set up customized projects, which we call project oriented learning. Does your problem concern different disciplines initiating an interdisciplinary development project might be of interest for you – within these projects master-students of different subjects as chemistry, textile technology, computer science, design and engineering come together in teams to work on complex challenges.

The range of services of TEXOVERSUM School of Textiles is naturally more than only research. The heart of our faculty is the education of students in different bachelor and master program covering areas as: textile technology, textile and fashion design, transportation interior design and textile management.
