Desmopan® Thermoplastic Polyurethane (TPU)
Thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) is a high-performance material that can revolutionize textile applications, from woven yarns, tarp and nonwoven fabrics to synthetic leather. Versatile TPU is also more sustainable, with pleasant haptics, high durability and a range of textures and stiffnesses.
Our Desmopan® TPU range offers high elasticity, durability, and abrasion resistance, meaning textiles can withstand repeated use without losing their shape. Resistance to oils, chemicals, and UV light also make TPU a naturally good fit for outdoor applications. In addition, wearers appreciate lightweight polyurethane (PU) fabrics with pleasant, dry touch, thanks to the material’s bio-compatible, breathability and moisture-drawing properties. Material health extends to the fact that Desmopan® TPU is fully recyclable, and comes in grades ranging from very soft to very stiff, enabling a more sustainable, mono-material solution than some alternatives. It is also available in grades with certified low volatile organic compound (VOC) content for lower harmful emissions.

Platilon® and Dureflex® thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) films
Platilon® and Dureflex® thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) films are known for their exceptional mechanical, chemical, and thermal properties, making them versatile for textile, sportswear, sports equipment, footwear, medical, construction, and industrial applications. The films offer excellent mechanical strength, flexibility, and durability, with heat, puncture, and abrasion resistance, making them ideal for textile bonding, fabric coating, and protective layers like bullet-proof vests. These films also serve in construction, automotive, and sports sectors, facilitating efficient lamination and innovative solutions. Our films not only protect, bond, or refine textiles and other materials; they can also be stretched when heated or melted, and then molded all over again. Moreover, Covestro Specialty Films is constantly researching and developing partly bio-based materials to reduce our carbon footprint. Our solutions have shown that those materials exhibit excellent product properties in various aspects, compared to fully fossil fuel-based films. Yet partly bio-based films are only one of the many ways to foster a more circular economy. We are also working on innovations that close material loops by recycling waste material streams.
