KANEKA Biodegradable Polymer Green Planet™ - Biodegradable Fibre
KANEKA Biodegradable Polymer Green Planet™ is the first 100% bio-based polymer produced via a revolutionary bio-fermentation process using renewable vegetable oils as feedstock. It belongs to the family of PolyHydroxyAlkanoates (PHA) and is a copolymer of 3-hydroxybutyrate (3-HB) and 3-hydroxyhexanoate (3-HH).
Articles made of KANEKA Biodegradable Polymer Green Planet™ have a significant sustainability advantage in reducing microplastics and ocean pollution through its biodegradable properties. Given the right conditions under either aerobic, anaerobic, or marine conditions in the natural environment, Green Planet™ will biodegrade and convert back into a biomass, carbon dioxide, and water.
The material can be processed with conventional plastic processing equipment, such as injection molding and extrusion machinery. Kaneka will soon offer commercial quantities of Staple fibre and Nonwovens made from KANEKA Biodegradable Polymer Green Planet™.
KANEKA Biodegradable Polymer Green Planet™ demonstrates excellent biodegradability not only in soil, but also in seawater and aquatic environments. Before the development of Green Planet™, Marine biodegradability has been a difficult challenge to achieve. Green Planet™ is suitable for food packaging, organic waste management, hygiene and wiping products, agricultural and marine-related applications.
