PyroTex® is a modified acrylic fiber, but not a modacrylic, and has a limiting oxygen index (LOI) of 43%. It is also acid and alkali resistant, UV resistant and solvent resistant. Most importantly, it does not melt, drip or produce toxic fumes.  

“We do not use antimony or halogens in our production and are Reach conform. And know that its properties are far superior to anything that is currently available,” explains Managing Director Robert Jarausch.

In May of last year, the company opened a new multi-million Euro production site in Spain.

“It is a big investment for a young company! It doesn’t only show that we see PyroTex® as a product with a strong future but also our dedication and commitment,” he says.  

The fiber can be used in nonwoven applications, as well as textiles and composites, and is available as fiber in 2.5 den and 3.5 den and cut lengths between 0.8-4.0in (10-120mm).

“The fiber is suited to very diverse markets. The 5 main application areas are:

-    public transportation (aircraft, railway, coaches)
-    protective apparel
-    interior fabrics
-    construction  
-    hot gas filtration

Besides the fact that it does not burn and not melt there has been a tremendous interest also because of the other features PyroTex® has: it does not smoke and is non-toxic making it the natural choice for many of the above sectors.

Other interesting applications such as protective sleeves for wires and cables, non-woven panels for heat insulation and soft toys show how universally usable PyroTex® is.

Fabrics made with PyroTex® passed the electric burner test M1, the smoke density toxicity test F1, the US Radiant Panel Burn Test, as well as the Vertical Flammability Test.  In textiles newly introduced was the UL94 test which was passed with V0.

Besides being flame resistant with a value of 0.044mW/mK it also has an extremely low thermal conductivity. “This value describes the ability of a material to conduct heat. The lower the value the better the thermal protection and the better the insulation” explains Mr. Jarausch.

“We’re proud that the Hohenstein Institute in Germany confirmed that PyroTex® passes all requirements for Class I of the Oeko-Tex 100 Standard.”
